Blue Lobster earned a place in my garden before it ever earned my respect.

In February of this year, I made a trip to New York City and stopped by Indoor Trees on 38th Street and 8th Avenue specifically to buy Blue Lobster from a legal dispensary. I wanted to experience the cultivar before committing months of my own time growing it. To be honest, it was a huge disappointment. The flower looked fine, but it had virtually no nose at all. It was forgettable enough that I nearly crossed the strain off my list entirely.

I'm incredibly glad I didn't.

The Blue Lobster I harvested couldn't have been more different. The moment the jar is opened, an explosion of ripe blueberry fills the room—stronger, sweeter, and louder than the Blue Dream I've grown for years. It's the most convincing blueberry aroma I've encountered in cannabis, and beneath all that fruit is a subtle layer of funky, savory gas that keeps it from becoming one-dimensional. The combination is addictive.

The flavor follows the aroma perfectly. Rich blueberry candy dominates the palate while that underlying funk adds just enough complexity to remind you this is still serious cannabis and not dessert. Long after the flower is gone, the terpenes seem to linger everywhere. In fact, Blue Lobster has one of my favorite qualities of any cultivar I've grown: your grinder will smell like artificial blueberry for days after you've emptied it.

The effects are every bit as memorable as the aroma. Despite the playful terpene profile, Blue Lobster is unapologetically indica dominant. The high arrives quickly and with surprising force, hitting like a truck before settling into a deeply relaxing body stone. It's the kind of cultivar that makes your shoulders drop, your thoughts slow down, and the couch suddenly become the best seat in the house.

This grow was a perfect reminder that genetics and cultivation matter just as much as the name on the jar. The dispensary version almost convinced me Blue Lobster was overrated. The version I grew convinced me it's one of the standout cultivars in my collection.

Unfortunately for us, I lost the clone of this cut due to my own negligence, so this batch will likely be the only one this year.

I thought I had 2 clones before I flipped the mother to flower, but I only had one, and she didn't make it. I went searching for the 2nd clone, but couldn't find it and I realized my mistake.

It was already Week 4 of flower, but I took a cutting from a bottom branch to try to clone the flowering plant, and I was able to get roots! But a few days after rooting, the clone didn't make it because high humidity is required to clone cuttings and those flowers didn't like all that moisture -- leading to rot.

Thankfully, I can buy another clone, and I plan to do that soon! Blue Lobster will likely permanently replace the Blue Dream by mid-2027 because it's so similar, but so much better IMO.
